Special Sunday Zoom Service Was Held: Day 23

Today is the end of May and soon a half of the year will be over. This year coronavirus infection became a big problem, and we had to stay home from mid-March. The State of New York became the epicenter of coronavirus. The number of infected patients and the death toll became the largest state in the U.S. People were unable to go to work, and the unemployment number surged. Citizens are worried about their health and life. They have accumulated frustration, and unfortunate events have happened one after another.

Recently, a policeman murdered an African-American man in Minneapolis. Every person’s life matters. It should not be wasted. I pray for the peaceful repose of his soul. This heartbreak incident triggered many people’s frustrations. Protesters have demonstrated violently for five consecutive nights. The police actions and destruction of violent protesters damaged so many people’s hearts. We must know that violence is not the answer but the cause of negative consequences.
Human beings are children of God. In the world of God there are no misfortune, disasters, murders, or robberies. But in the phenomenal world we see many unfortunate events repeatedly. Why? It is because human beings do not see God's perfect world [the True-Image World] properly. We see the perfect world through the frosted glass and tinted glasses. We must change this world through proper words, thoughts, and actions.
Today Rev. Bruce Mallery, Seicho-No-Ie U.S. National Ordained Minister delivered two lectures: 1) Reshape Your Future by Rebooting Your Faith, and 2) Positive Thinking Empowers Your Life.
Originally, we planned to have our Public Lecture today, but because of the Coronavirus pandemic and we were unable to bring 10 people or more at the center, we decided to invite Rev. Mallery through the internet and had this zoom Sunday Service. Thank you very much, Rev. Mallery for your wonderful lectures.

Be Careful What You Do When You Have Enormous Power: Day 22

Finding criminals is the work for police and prosecutors, so they are given enormous power in the investigation. When we are given that kind of power, we have to be careful about how to use it. If we use it without thinking carefully, it will bring a different result which we do not expect. I think the following incident is one of the examples. As a minister, many people respect me and my action will affect the members. I have to reflect on my action and need to be very careful. This example may be a small incident for someone but it is ringing a bell and also an important lesson for me.

My Prayer: Day 21

The U.S.A. Covid-19 death toll passed over one hundred thousand. I would like to express my sincere condolences to the grieved family members, and I offer my sincere prayer asking for God’s guidance and blessings for those spirits who made their transition to the spiritual world.
I also ask for God’s guidance and protection for those who are presently fighting for their lives and for those who are suffering their environment because of the hardships encountered because of the current situation. This is a grim milestone and my family and I resolve to help each other and pray for health, peace, happiness, and prosperity for everyone.

Let Us Pray: Day 20

(This was shared on April 12, 2020, on Zoom Conference.)
As you may know, on Friday, March 20, 2020, I developed a high fever and had body aches throughout my body. I was unable to get up for two days, so on Monday, March 23, I had a video appointment with my doctor. She gave me a ten-day prescription to help alleviate the fever and body aches. I am grateful to God for His protection, for my ancestors’ guidance, for your compassionate prayers, and for my wife’s and my family members’ love and dedication. On the day after I finished my ten-day prescription I was free from fever and body pain. The worst days are over and I am on my way to a full recovery.
During the time I was very ill, so many people sent me messages through text, email, and other methods of communication to let me know they were thinking of me and to cheer me up. Although I was unable to reply to all of these messages, I would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts, messages, and prayers. Thank you very much. I am eternally grateful for everyone’s messages and prayers.
There have been many positive cases of COVID-19, especially in New York State. New York State is the state that has the highest number of positive cases of COVID-19 and the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the United States.
We must have deep appreciation for all essential workers who must keep working during this pandemic: (not meant to be all-inclusive) health care workers, infrastructure (such as utilities, water, waste, telecommunications, transportation, airlines, hotels), manufacturing (such as food processing, medical equipment, farming, paper products), retail (such as grocery stores, pharmacies, gasoline stations, hardware, take-out/delivery food), services (such as trash and recycling collection and disposal, mail and shipping services, laundromats, child care, auto repair, warehouse distribution and fulfillment, funeral homes, animal shelters), news media, financial institutions, providers of homeless shelters and food banks, home care, electricians, plumbers, law enforcement, fire departments, and volunteers, just to name a few.
I would like us all to pray for all of the essential workers who continue to work for all of us during this pandemic. Please close your eyes and put your hands in prayer.

Words of Prayer
O God, we human beings are now facing a health crisis that we have not had to face before. God did not create coronavirus as an enemy for human beings. There is nothing superfluous in this world. However, all the existences have their own appropriate time, place, and environment. When certain existences appear, they will accomplish their purpose. If they appear at an inappropriate time, place, and environment, such as this coronavirus, it appears as an epidemic, plague, or disaster.

O God, we offer our sincere prayer asking for Your guidance, protection, and blessings for those spirits who have made their transition to the spiritual world. Furthermore, we ask for Your guidance and protection for those who are presently fighting for their lives because of this virus and for those who are suffering in their environment because of the hardships encountered because of the current situation. We sincerely pray that our lives will return to normal as soon as possible. We sincerely pray that when we resume our lives it will be a better normal life and we will live in harmony with nature and all living beings. Let us remember to carry out God’s Love and the Four Immeasurable Minds of Buddha to all sentient and non-sentient beings.

In particular, please bless and protect those caregivers who are currently working long hours dealing with the many patients who are suffering from COVID-19, especially doctors/nurses/people who work in hospitals and nursing homes, first responders, police officers, firefighters and emergency crews, workers for daily necessities, deliver men and women, and all the brave volunteers. We understand that they are manifestations of the Bodhisattva Who Reflect the Sounds of the World. O God, we are very grateful to You for Your Perfect guidance and Protection. Thank you very much.

Every Person Is the King of Their Own Life: Day 19

(This is the lecture given on May 3, 2020, through the internet.)
I am happy that I am finally able to resume my work and come to you through the internet. During my illness, I lost a lot of weight and strength, but have been slowly gaining back the weight and increasing my strength. I am grateful to God for His guidance.
Today, I will talk about infinite existence. Founder Rev. Masaharu Taniguchi wrote:

The Absolute, the Super-Human, the Omnipresent, the Infinite that dwells within; the Infinite that is in the Finite; the Absolute appearing to be the Relative; the Super-Human Being that is behind all that seems material; the Eternal as it is at present; the Infinite while Finite at the same time; the Omnipresent while Individual at the same time—that is I, that is you, as well as all other persons. The realization of this truth should be cause enough to lead people to natural and spontaneous mutual worship. (365 Golden Keys to the Summit of Fulfillment, p. 115)

Human beings are physically a finite existence, but our true existence which is a child of God is an infinite existence. When we understand our true existence, we understand that we are an absolute existence and at the same time a relative existence; and that we are an eternal existence and at the same time a transient existence. If we only believe we are our physical bodies and only of material existence, we do not understand our infinite existence. Rev. Taniguchi continued his message as follows:

Insofar as one regards himself as merely a physical, bodily existence, there is no way for him to escape the boundaries of limitations and restrictions. That way he cannot receive total freedom. Thus, in order to transcend and go beyond physical restrictions and seize liberty, one must know the truth, as Jesus aptly said, “The truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Although Jesus fell silent and did not answer when asked (by Pilate), “What is the truth?”, when he was asked again, “Are you the King of the Jews?” (Luke 23:3), Jesus answered, “It is as you say.” What Jesus meant by “King” is the “Absolute” that is sacred and untouchable. Legally speaking, not all persons are kings, but from a religious point of view, each and every person is a king possessed with absolute freedom. Verily, this is the truth. The knowledge of this truth will give every man true freedom. (Ibid., pp. 115-116)

Rev. Taniguchi taught that as long as you see yourself as a physical body and only a material existence you will be limited by physical boundaries. He also explained from a philosophical standpoint that every person is the king of their own lives possessed with absolute freedom to live life however they desire. We are free to become sick and free to not become sick.
As you may know, I suffered from a high fever for two weeks. Many people prayed for my health. One of our Regional Lecturers was asked why I became sick because Seicho-No-Ie teaches that we are all children of God. Today and next week I will answer this question.
On Friday, March 20, my whole body was in pain and I could not get up for two days. I had a fever, severe headache and nausea. So on Monday, March 23, I had a video appointment with my doctor and she gave me a ten-day prescription of Tylenol (acetaminophen) to help alleviate the fever and body aches, but it did not help and the next day I vomited.
The next day the doctor gave me a stronger medication of Tylenol and Oxycodone-Acetaminophen. This medication caused me to have hallucinations and I was unable to distinguish between dreams and reality. I would have a dream, but believe the dream was real. I dreamt I could stab myself with a knife or jump off a building to escape from the pain. Then I believed the dream would disappear by snapping my finger. On the second night after I started taking this medicine, I woke up in a lucid moment and realized that I had been having hallucinations and I got so scared that I asked my wife to flush all the medicine into the toilet.
The next morning I talked with my doctor, and finally I agreed to take 4000 mg of Tylenol a day along with a drug that suppresses stomach acid. So I had to take twenty 200mg tablets of Tylenol each day. During the next 6 days, I lost over 25 lbs.
Around the 6th day of my illness, I was able to sit on the floor bending my knees. At that time, I felt infinite gratitude from the bottom of my heart that I was able to sit on the floor. I was so overwhelmed I could not stop the tears. Seicho-No-Ie teaches us that we should be grateful for ordinary things. I have practiced gratitude many times repeating empty words saying, “Thanks for the air,” “Thanks for drinking water,” etc. There was no emotion. I have never felt the gratitude that just bending my knees and sitting on the floor gave me. Even though my gratitude and my tears were sincere, my physical pain still was severe. I was physically suffering lying in bed.
My wife’s journal entry of Sunday, March 29, said that at 6:30 am I went to her and was suffering so badly that I cried to her saying: “Help me.”
(Mario) “It’s so painful ...”
(Fujiko) “You’ll be okay, you just took the medicine!”
“Panting breathing.”

I was so weak that I did not have the strength to speak loudly enough to be heard. My doctor called me often to check up on me. When she called, I was unable to speak on the phone with her so my wife had to speak with the doctor when she called to check up on me.
Thanks to God’s blessing, my ancestors’ guidance, profound prayers of friends and members, and the love and devotion of my wife and children, my fever stabilized on the 12th day. On Friday, April 3rd, I finally had no fever.
I am eternally grateful to my doctor’s wisdom and guidance. She did all she could to avoid having me come to the hospital. Recently she told me that she did not think I would have made it if I was hospitalized during my illness because at that time the epicenter of the New Rochelle cluster of Covid-19 was one street away from my home.
Through all of this, I learned it is not enough to practice gratitude just by crying tears from the bottom of my soul. I learned the truly important lesson of living life every day with true gratitude. I am grateful and fortunate to have the love and prayers from so many people.
I believe that this experience was what I truly needed at this time. It gave me the ability to experience the true gratitude that I may not have been able to find if I had gotten ill ten years earlier or ten years later. The law of the mind is always applied correctly without exception.
Next week I will continue to talk about how our world is created in accordance with our mind and talk about the reasons that I fell ill.
Because of Covid-19 many people have departed to the spiritual world. Also, over 30 million people have filed for unemployment. People are suffering not only in the United States, but all over the world. I offer my sincere prayer asking for God’s guidance, protection, and blessings for those who made their transition to the spiritual world.

Let's Change Our Lifestyle: Day 18

To consume meat products is possible for human beings because of the sacrifice of animal lives. Now, the Secretary of Agriculture, Jonny Perdue, sent a letter to governors and meat product company saying, "I exhort you" to reopen their factories. If the federal government forces them to do so, the meat which will be ready to consume in the future might add sacrifice of human lives considering the current fast spreading of Covid-19. "Exhort" has a very strong tone.

The Government wants to stop spreading coronavirus but, on the other hand, try to persuade meat companies to reopen their product lines although these companies have just shut down due to the outbreak of their employees' positive Covid-19 patients. It is absolutely inhumane. I suggest people to think that this is a great opportunity for human beings to change our food lifestyle.
